What I build
The work outside the job title spans a few connected areas:
- Machine learning — fine-tuning and self-hosting a local LLM assistant, from the data pipeline through LoRA training on my own GPU hardware.
- Homelab & networking — a segmented network built on Proxmox, OPNsense, and enterprise firewalls, rebuilt from surplus hardware and run like production infrastructure.
- Computer vision — camera-based monitoring integrated into that same homelab for real-time detection and alerting.
- Security tooling — vulnerability management and OSINT automation built against real compliance frameworks, not toy examples.
I write about each as it develops, not after the fact, so some of what’s here is mid-build rather than finished.
Where this connects
As a Cyber Security Engineer and Army Cyber Warfare Officer, none of this runs in a separate lane from the day-to-day work. Compliance and risk management, cyber operations planning, and standing up detection infrastructure in my own homelab all come down to the same skill: understanding a system well enough to defend it, or break it on purpose to find where it fails first.
